FAQ
What is Productive Points?
In a nutshell, it’s a simple system I created to get things done — daily tasks, big-to-small projects, and goals.
Who can use it?
ANYONE! If you have projects, to do lists, goals, etc, then you can use and benefit from this system.
Why did you create it?
I created Productive Points because I wanted to get more things done! (And because I’ve always wanted something like my own “Personal Productivity Rewards Program” sort of like airline miles programs.)
Why should I use it?
Well, you should only use Productive Points if you want to, of course.
Does it really work?
Yes! It works if you follow the rules and you know how to motivate yourself. Productive Points is like a fun game you play against yourself to make projects and tasks more enjoyable. But games are only fun when you stay within the rules. (Only the “rules” are stopping you from taking all the money from the bank in Monopoly, but the game wouldn’t be nearly as fun if you just broke the rules.)
How can I get support for the iPhone app?
Please complete the contact form.
Do you offer an Android app?
We’re already working on it. Stay tuned!
How many points should I assign for my tasks?
That depends on level of importance, priority, and degree of difficulty. But you can always tweak points as you go along. For example, if you say “Save $100″ is worth 50 points but then you never actually do it, you might consider increasing the points to increase your motivation.
How many points should I require for my rewards?
That also depends. But in general small rewards should have fewer points, and larger rewards should require more points.
What’s a good example of a reward?
I like “Get a Massage,” “Take a Weekend Trip,” “Watch TV for 30 Minutes,” “Go on a Shopping Spree,” “Go Out for a Nice Dinner,” etc. The most important thing is that you find things that actually motivate YOU.
What if I just cheat and take my reward without earning the points?
Well, what can I say? Start over and try again.
What if I forget to track my points?
That’s part of the system. As we all know, productivity systems are pretty much worthless if we don’t stay on top of them. That’s why monitoring your list a few times throughout the day is actually a good way to stay on top of what you’re supposed to be doing.
A great question to keep asking yourself is, “How can I earn the most points right now?” If you setup your Productive Points system correctly, the answer should be working on completing your most important projects and goals!
